Su appreciates her friends a great deal... that is when she's not climbing all over them, causing mischief around them, and greeting them with kicks to the face! Here are some of her friends (and acquaintances too)!
Urashima Keitaro - Su's punching bag! Keitaro's the manager (kanrinrin) of Hinata Inn and is one of Su's favourite playmates. Despite looking scrawny and weak, he seems to be able to handle Su's playful beatings and he's fun to chase too! Su and Keitaro's first meeting was when Keitaro was running from a very angry Naru and Mitsune. He ran down the stairs and accidentally crushed one of Su's toy tanks. This was enough cause for Su to send the rest of her troops (including one
big tank) after him, armed with missiles and other such dangerous instruments. In fact, it was Su Keitaro most feared would "kick his ass" before Motoko returned. She greets him regularly with a yell and a hearty kick to the face. But besides using him as target practice Su's really quite attached to Keitaro. He reminds her of her older brother and once Keitaro woke up to find her sleeping in his bed because she was lonely for her brother. But he's not really anything like her brother and what Su might like most about him is the fact that he never says things like "There's nothing we can do about it,"
Narusegawa Naru - Su likes Naru a lot too, just not as much as she likes everyone else because Naru's too normal sometimes ^^. Naru and Su have a good friendly relationship and it seems as if Naru acts as Su's guardian sometimes. She feels slightly responsible for the younger girl and is always there to try and calm Su down and stop her from doing something silly. They're also most likely fairly supportive of each other. After all, when Keitaro ever does anything slightly perverted Su's the second one on the scene ready to kick his ass. She never can quite beat Motoko though, lol. I think they share a mutual respect, but I'm sure Naru wishes Su would just calm down once in awhile and think seriously about things.
Maehara Shinobu - Despite the fact that they're polar opposites, Su and Shinobu are basically the best of friends. They're the younger residents of Hinata Inn so it's natural that they would hang out together. Su was Shinobu's second friend at school and Shinobu was Su's first friend at school. They spend some of their time walking around the town. Well actually, Su's jumping around from the ground, to the roof and anywhere else within her reach while Shinobu does her best to catch up. And when they buy food (oh, alright, when
Su buys food) it's usually poor Shinobu who ends up paying. But Su really does care about Shinobu as a friend. Once when she thought Shinobu was sad because she wanted her first kiss, Su took it upon herself to make all sorts of whacky machines that could help the situation. When those didn't work, she delivered Shinobu's first kiss herself, all to make her friend happy ^^. Shinobu's the only friend that calls Su by her first name, Kaolla. They stick together on whacky escapades (unless Shinobu's off somewhere with Keitaro) and they're always supportive of each other! Well... unless Su's teasing Shinobu...
Konno Mitsune - Mitsune and Su were the mischief-making duo before the arrival of Sara MacDougall. Of course... Mitsune wasn't
always causing trouble. Sometimes she did her best to keep Su out of trouble and prevent her from doing anything too silly. But for the majority of the series Mitsune recruited Su to help her raise a little hell at Hinata Inn. All work and no play makes Mitsune a dull person, ne? Of course, their relationship is probably greater than just that of a partnership in trouble. They're friends and they have fun together and probably care about each other quite a bit. Oh, and they also share a mutual interest in teasing/beating up Keitaro ^^ I also believe it was Mitsune who taught Su how to read, write, and speak Japanese, so that probably provided some bonding time as well.
Aoyama Motoko - When it's not Keitaro that Su's climbing all over, it's Motoko. Motoko has the raw strength to support the girl after all, ne? She also doesn't seem to mind carting Su-chan around the least bit and she's often seen doing just that. Also, with her quick reactions, she can usually avoid anything Su throws around. Although you wouldn't think that their contrasting personalities would really allow them to be friends (I mean really, I'd expect Motoko to get incredibly annoyed with Su sometimes) they're apparently close and get along very well. Su-chan even sleeps in her room sometimes according to the anime. They're also usually the first ones to jump in on "Keitaro Pervert Alerts". They like Keitaro bashing and abuse. They really do! And without Su to stir things up, Motoko wouldn't be able to practice her kendo moves as much, what with evil Mecha Tamas and the such.
Otohime Mutsumi - Su doesn't interact with Mutsumi much. In fact, I'm not sure I remember much direct conversation between them ^^. They do, however, both share a similar talent: They can both talk to Tama-chan and understand what he says! Of course, Mutsumi never tries to
eat Tama-chan like Su does... I'm sure that if they did interact more though, Su would like Mutsumi (after all, she's kind of like Keitaro). She'd probably also try to whip up some machinery that would take care of Mutsumi's anemic problem.
Seta Noriyasu - Seta was Naru and Mitsune's tutor when they were in high school and he's a very nice man... if a little flippant at times. He has the this strange knack of turning his van over and emerging with a gash in his forehead while bleeding profusely. He doesn't have much interaction with Su-chan either. But that's okay, because her friendship with his "daughter" (Sara) more than makes up for their lack of relationship.
Sara MacDougall - Sara is quite the little brat! She's decided to adopt Seta as her father figure (apparently she doesn't like her birthparents very much) and is quite adamant about the fact that he pretty much belongs to her and no woman can get near him ^^ Anyway, Sara and Su are the
real partners in crime at Hinata Inn. Although at first Sara didn't like Su very much (Su and the rest of the residents made a big fuss over Sara's "cuteness" and Sara thought Su to be very,
very bizarre) they ended up to be a pretty inseperable pair. They enjoyed causing trouble and mayhem at Hinata and also enjoyed exploring and charting all of the secret tunnels and passageways they discovered. They make good use of all of Su's weapons and inventions. And again, the mutual interest in beating Keitaro up is also existant ^^
Urashima Haruka - The one who wasn't allowed to be part of "The Hinata Girls": Haruka-san! XD She's Keitaro's aunt and hates being referred to as if she's old. She's also quite cynical and speaks with a very dead-pan voice. Su's just a bit too genki for her, ne? They don't interact much other than as overseer and resident. Haruka does seem to understand Su-chan's situation with her family a lot better than everyone else and knows when she should have some space to herself. If anyone's going to tell people to leave Su alone about it, it's Haruka.
Shirai & Haitani - Keitaro's loser friends! If Su's ever lacking someone to "play" with these guys are usually pretty good substitutes! Haitani and Shirai probably admire Su the least out of the Hinata Inn girls. Even Shinobu ranks higher on their list (possibly classifying them as pedophiles...) because her quiet cuteness appeals to them. Su's just the monkey girl that's loud and active. They do, however, like adult Su and formulated this weird idea at one point that Su was a "mahou shoujo" (magical girl. eg. Sailormoon) and she transformed into adult Su by help of some weird instrument! They've had some bad run-ins with Su though, like being stuffed in turtle suits when she found them trespassing in her room. She had them tied to her ankles for the whole day and even had them dangling off the railing while she was perched on top of it.
Sakata Kentaro - aka. "The-rich-guy-who-everyone-called-Keitaro-that-liked-Naru-and-was-rejected-and-was-somehow-roped-into-a-job-at-Hinata-Inn-due-to-debt". He's an
excellent substitute for Keitaro, heck his name even sounds like Keitaro's! Su enjoys playing with Kentaro lots and even stuffed him into a huge robot machine once. Kentaro probably just thinks Su is some kind of weirdo monkey girl and tries to get away from her ^^
Narusegawa Mei - Although she doesn't look it, Mei is quite the schemer as well! She is Naru's step-sister and wanted her sister to come home so badly that she did everything her power to screw up her and Keitaro's pending relationship. She did find her place at Hinata Inn when she resolved her problems with Naru (or more Naru resolved her problems with Mei) and joined the Shinobu, Su, and Sara group. They're seen hanging out together during Mei's very few episodes as well as the two specials. She and Su seem to get along well enough and are probably good friends.
Taichi Akiko - Su initially formed her friendship with Taichi because of Shinobu. She wanted to find out more about Shinobu and become closer friends with her, so she did this by gleaning infomration out of Taichi (who is Shinobu's only other friend at school). Su and Taichi ended up really hitting it off (after all, Taichi's friendly if a bit silly at times) and they even wore the same hairstyles and acted the same way for awhile. Both value Shinobu's friendship a lot, so they have some common ground to build their friendship on ^^ Taichi's quite cute, she reminds me a lot of Hikari from Eva.
Urashima Kanako - Keitaro's adopted sister did not make a very good impression on the residents of Hinata Inn. She disguised herself as Naru and caused lots of trouble in order to get everyone to dislike Naru and kick her out. Su had her beautiful room cleaned out by Kanako (think of how long it took her to get the hot spring, the trees, the plants, and all those to thrive! And her wonderful inventions were thrown away! Naaaaa~) and she quite happily joined the chase with her missiles to get her back for it! Su did end up enjoying Kanako's company though because Kanako brought Kuro with her and enjoyed playing with Mecha Tamas as much as Keitaro did! lol
Tama-chan - Tama-chan is the official pet of Hinata Inn since Mutsumi gave her to Naru. Su's one of two people who can speak to and hear Tama-chan talk, but she seems to take interest in Tama-chan as a source of food. Reminds me of Excel and Menchi! If it wasn't for Shinobu Tama-chan could be a turtle sandwich, soup, or any other countless things before you could say "Myuuuuu!"
Kuro - Even if Su didn't like Kanako much, that doesn't mean she has to dislike her pet cat as well ^^. Su calls Kuro the "witch cat" and commented that with her around there would be a lot more fun. She's almost fascinated by Kuro and fully intends to do more "research" on the cat. Who knows, there might be a few Mecha-Kuro's running around before you know it...
