ABOUT KINDAICHI

Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo, released as The Kindaichi Case Files by TokyoPop, is a collaboration between artist Fumiya Sato and respective writers Yozaburo Kanari and Seimaru Amagi that chronicles the misadventures of Kindaichi Hajime as an amateur (but effective) detective of murders. With his childhood friend Miyuki and some allies in the police department, Kindaichi is never at a loss for new, seemingly impossible murders to solve as trouble seems to follow him around. The series has been compared to everything from Detective Conan to Encyclopedia Brown, with some Agatha Christie in the middle, and has enjoyed a popular run in Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The things that set Kindaichi apart from other mystery series include murderers that can command sympathy despite their deeds, tricks used by the murderer to make the impossible murder possible, and main and recurring characters that clearly leave an impact on the reader. Kindaichi is not all fun and games, it's very serious, gory, and dark at times, but there are light-hearted moments to balance it out too. Overall, this is one hell of a mystery series that shouldn't be missed!
